What to pack for a weekend in The Hamptons

The amount of “stuff” required for a trip with the kids is, frankly, ridiculous! It doesn’t seem to make a difference whether you’re going away for a weekend or for a two week break, the sheer amount of must-have items your little darlings seem to require can be mind boggling. Have you ever arrived on a weekend break only to realise that everyone else has everything they need and you’ve barely got a change of clothes! It’s easily done when you’re trying to think of everything for everybody.

With many of us looking forward to holidays and weekends away, we thought we would take a look at what you really do need to pack for a weekend in The Hamptons. Whilst we can’t promise that packing for the family will be a breeze, hopefully this guide will help you to refine your kids’ style for a fun weekend away and even leave some space in the suitcase for your own style favorites!

The Hamptons has long been known as a celebrity summer playground. Ooozing with style and luxury, the destinations of Southampton and East Hampton are often considered to be party capitals for young New Yorkers looking to escape for the weekend. While The Hamptons may have a reputation for being exclusive there are many family friendly resorts and a whole host of activities to keep little adventurers amused.

Try some of these great days out recommended by Mommy Poppins:

Hitting the beach? Here are some of the best beach playgrounds

Take a boat out to Shelter Island for beaches, wildlife and a laid-back atmosphere

Take a trip on the Long Island Railroad

The Children’s Museum of the East End makes for a great trip out to inspire their imaginations

Crabby Jerry’s in Greenport is a great spot for people watching, with delicious food and a family friendly vibe to boot!

A few of our personal favorites include:

Tate’s Bake Shop – the best chocolate chip cookies around!

Montauk Lighthouse

Deep Hollow Ranch – the children will just loving being cowboys and cowgirls for the day!

So, back to your packing list! While you’re planning a whole host of amazing activities, you don’t want to be weighed down by an unnecessary amount of clothes. A few key pieces (and some spares for the inevitable changes here and there) are all you really need. Style is high on the agenda for many people visiting The Hamptons, so if you want to get your little fashionistas looking great and feeling super-comfortable, here is your ultimate list of must-have items:
